The best DJ mixes of the year 2025 so far - December - Mixmag.net

Miss Monique ‘Burn Energy Tour | Bucharest’

After her incredible charity set with Mixmag in Kyiv this summer, Miss Monique has returned for another top drawer DJ set and streamn. This time, on the Burn Energy Tour, we stopped at Bucharest, where the artist brought a set of pumping progressive house that had thousands of people going crazy. Driving us through with a bunch of unreleased works, this set is yet another huge moment for the star.

Polygonia ‘themuddshow x BLITZ’

Polygonia is a true crate digger, and this mix asserts that once again. Dynamic, exciting and flawless, the German artist is able to curate a set that flows through a range of textures that scratch every surface of techno. Even playing out to an empty venue, she’s still smiling and at one with the music, driving through the waves of the set.

Yushh b2b CCL at Draaimolen Festival

In a special Timedance-curated stage takeover, CCL and Yushh went back-to-back at Tilburg’s Draaimolen Festival in September over the span of two hours, delivering a charged set to bring Sunday’s festivities to a close. There’s so much peak-time heat in this one, ranging from jaunty breaks to a monumental bass-packed finale – a set that CCL has since called “a huge highlight of the year”.

Frazer Ray's Beatless Set at Olaulim Backyards

Frazer Ray opted for something slightly different in the latest edition of Piknik’s mix series, with a completely drumless hour-long set to complement the serene backdrop of Olaulim Backyards in Goa. Kicking off with a stripped-back version of his collab track ‘Call For Noise’ with O’Flynn, Frazer brings a sense of calm to this mix, with beatless versions of typical club bangers including Orbital’s ‘Belfast’ and Underworld’s ‘Dark and Long’, as well as a few ambient tracks littered through.

Foodman on NTS

While Foodman’s typical bread-and-butter (whey) tends to be breakneck footwork, for his NTS show this month the Nagoya-based DJ and producer turned his discerning palette to UK bass, techno and puffed up, swelling dub that threatens to eat you up whole. Utilising tracks from E Wata, System 7, Purelink, and Fluxion, this mix perfectly balances knife-edge intensity with gratifying rhythm, through its flavourful pairing of sumptuous percussion and mouthwateringly jiggly bass. Yum!

Mala ‘RA.1016’

If you want a kaleidoscopic, thorough retelling of dubstep from its origins through to the current day, you’d be tasked to find anyone better up for the task than Mala. Opting for a close-to three hour studio session for his go at RA’s mix series, the pioneering South London DJ and producer transverses cutting-edge iterations, deeper than deep cuts, alongside beloved deep cuts all informed by his encyclopaedic knowledge of the genre he helped forge. Call it an aural history, call it a love letter, call it whatever you want — regardless, this is the proper shit.

Verses GT AKA Jacques Greene & Nosaj Thing ‘Beats In Space 188’

Jacques Greene and Nosaj Thing’s link-up as Verses GT has already produced an emotionally rich, textured album and a live tour this year, and now the duo have got in the mix for Tim Sweeney’s esteemed Beats In Space show. Plotting a course through a heavenly blend of blissed-out Balearic, lush house, grainy UK techno and deeper variations on the style from Montreal to Copenhagen to Montreal, it’s a mix that hits all the right pleasure points for soothing the soul after a long year.

Jump Source (Priori & Patrick Holland) @ Parquette

Back in April, Priori and Patrick Holland blessed an emptied-out gym in their hometown Montreal with a five-hour set as Jump Source. This month the internet was blessed with the recording, which took place acreoss 2-7:AM and no doubt ransfixed all in attendance with its captivating energy. House of all kinds features: hazy and paddy; sleek and sexy; raw and bouncy; poroggy and uplifting; deep and soul-affirming. It makes a late, strong case for best mix of the year, if not beyond.

Jeff Mill ‘Live At The Liquid Room’

OK, it’s not from this month, but it has hit a streaming platform (Apple Music) for the first time. This masterclass mix from Detroit techno wizard, recorded live in Tokyo in 1995, is one the very best of all time: bold, adventurous, chaotic.. Sloppy? Whatever your view, it’s a mind-melting listen and if you haven’t yet taken the plunge there’s never a better time than right now.
