The best DJ mixes of the year 2022 - November - Music - Mixmag

Ida Folder - CloudCore 30.11.22

Collective and record label CloudCore pulled together a colossal anonymous mix on Estonian radio station IDA this month packed with plenty of garage, club, and hyperpop-leaning cuts. With a few irreverent skits along the way, this hour-long mix also makes room for tracks both old and new including artists such as Cameo Blush, SECOND, and Danny L Harle.

Fuse w/ Cormac on Kiosk Radio

Northern Ireland’s Cormac headed out to Brussels this month, making his return to the Royal Parc’s two-foot-wide wooden shack housing Kiosk Radio. Playing his extended collection of contemporary Italo and disco favourites, this sweeping mix could keep any party going after hours.

Sacred Pools w/ Toshiki Ohta on NTS

An airy two hours of tones, textures and techno. Toshiki Ohta’s selection in this mix engulfs a broad spectrum of artists including Otik, Daniel Avery and Doctor Jeep. Combining complex beats that also all share the same energy, it’s an essential listen.

FIONA on Rinse France

With inspiration spanning from Chicago and Detroit, FIONA packs in some cutting-edge beats and vocals to produce an hour of ecstasy. Hardcore techno bounces on top of some groovy house selections as she collides genres in a profound way.

Tash LC ‘Fact Mix 885’

Exploring unexpected ways to link different scenes, Tash LC fuses techno with gqom with house and much more yet makes it sound simple. It’s a perfect mix for everyday listening and for those who also want to delve into some new music that is packed with energy.

Mixtress 'Mixmag Impact'

Mixtress’s Impact mix created a testimonial to all things raucous — packed to the brim with ‘90s warehouse deep cuts, cavernous new-age dubstep, leftfield IDM and more. Described by the queen of the gun finger as “emulating a night out,” the hour-long mix builds into a furious crescendo towards its drum ‘n’ bass-heavy conclusion — but there are a multitude of surprises to be found along the way. There’s an edit of Pink Floyd’s ‘Any Colour You Like’, a glistening drop of Goldfrapp’s ‘Black Cherry’ and two (2) Boards of Canada inclusions by way of the chuggy ‘1969’ and lo-fi spinner ‘Olsen’ — all joined by storied faves like Orbital ‘Chime’, NRG ‘Tripswitch’ and Alix Perez ‘Vanguard’. The result is a mix that describes Mixtress’ journey of musical discovery, demonstrating her eclectic taste and wide-spanning knowledge of the genres she plays. It’s a dance music Book of Revelations if the Book of Revelations was written by a turbo-charged rave goddess.

TAAHLIAH 'Fact Mix 884’

We lost count of the amount of times this mix made us involuntarily gasp in elation. On the adrenaline-fuelled, hour-long mix for Fact, Scottish DJ and producer TAAHLIAH messes with form, genre and our heart rates with an eccentric frenzy of mainstream dance bootlegs, cutting-edge club sounds and nosebleed techno. Alongside finger biters like ÅMRTÜM’s ‘ACAB’, there are deep house cuts, SOPHIE edits and even a, quite frankly baffling, bass rework of David Guetta and Sia’s ‘Titanium’.

dreamcastmoe ‘Mixmag ‘Impact’

Recorded live in San Francisco after turning up half an hour late, dreamcastmoe’s Impact mix is a fun, genre-flickering look into his grooving DJ style. On top of the excellent selections he jumps on the microphone – chatting, singing and generally riling up the crowd for Jayda G, the party’s headliner that night.

Bruno Schmidt ‘Ghostcast 018’

For Berlin mainstays The Ghost’s podcast series, Bruno Schmidt brings 80 minutes showcasing his distinctive take on house and techno. From start to finish, the Domesticated label selects oddball electro cuts, groovy techno and wacky acid house.

Sansibar ‘FACT Mix 882’

Having been making a name for himself over the past five years or so with his energetic live sets, DJing and productions, the Finnish multi-format musician delivers 75 minutes of high-octane club music built for peak-time sessions – with ‘90s trance, techno and his own fist pumping edits bringing the energy.
