AIAIAI is continuing its quest to rid the world of the annoyance of wires with the release of its TMA-2 Studio Wireless+ headphones.

A wireless version of the beloved TMA-2 MOVE XE headphones was released to strong reviews last year, and now the audio specialists have delivered once again with the release of the world’s first wireless headphones geared for music production.

Building upon the impressive TMA-2 Studio Headphones, the new cans were co-developed over a three year period with techno visionary Richie Hawtin to ensure they offer clean sound without the constraints of wires.

“In 2021 it feels archaic to be wired to a piece of hardware just to guarantee pristine audio quality,” said Richie last year, and we had to agree, so were excited to get our hands on the new product when it launched this year.

Unpacking the headphones, they feel luxurious in a matte black box with each component inside glossy black packets.

The modular elements are easy to piece together: the speaker units fit snugly inside the soft, memory foam Alcantara earpads, which are simple to connect to the comfortable headband, looking sleek and stylish once assembled. The package also comes with a storage pouch and Wireless+ transmitter, as well as a coiled cable should you ever need to wire them up.

AIAIAI’s new W+ Link technology in the transmitter is impressive, offering ultra-low latency and uncompressed audio. The lossless audio sounds remarkably crisp and full, meaning it’s ideal for producers and engineers tinkering in the studio and requiring detailed quality. The bass sounds especially strong, and the volume can hit high levels without a reduction in quality. The lack of wire is a bonus for anyone needing to move around a studio, from mixing desk to synth to drum machine, as they fine tune their bangers.

For more casual listening, the headphones also offer Bluetooth 5.0 functionality with an impressive 80 hours of playback time. Meaning you can disconnect from the studio and bounce demos to a portable device to review your work on-the-go, or simply double up to use them for everyday listening.

The AIAIAI TMA-2 Studio Wireless+ have our seal approval: they’re comfortable, adaptable, sound great, and best of all, are freeing. Priced at £300, casual listeners not require the precision of the audio and will find cheaper alternatives, but for professionals looking to go wireless, AIAIAI have delivered.
