Virgil Abloh's Pioneer DJ collab to be displayed at a museum
The Virgil Abloh and Pioneer DJ collab will “inspire a different sound while DJing”
Multi-faceted artist Virgil Abloh has designed his own CDJ and mixer in collaboration with Pioneer DJ that will be displayed at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
The transparent CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 were first revealed on Abloh's Instagram and later debuted at his Coachella DJ set. Now the collab will be on display at his first museum exhibition entitled "FIGURES OF SPEECH".
Abloh, who is the founder of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton, had this to say about the vision behind his design: “As a means to give a new look and feel to the industry standard of the CDJ and DJM I aimed to design a see-thru and non-labeled rendition of the classic models to inspire a different sound while DJing. And perhaps a new way for music technology and human interaction to equal a different result.”
Akio Moriwaki, President and CEO of Pioneer DJ, also expressed excitement for the collaboration and what it represents for the company: "Virgil Abloh's creations can’t be defined by genre. He boldly connects various art forms, demonstrating unlimited creative possibilities to audiences around the world, and this embodies DJing. Supported by DJs who straddle the boundaries of music and creating new stories, this year, the CDJ series will celebrate its 25th anniversary. We hope that our collaboration with Virgil Abloh will trigger a new story for our customers and our company, and lead to the further development of DJ culture."
"FIGURES OF SPEECH" will be on display at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art from June 10 to September 22, 2019.
