Tribute event for Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira to go ahead in London
The journalists will be remembered at the event in London this Thursday
Tomorrow, late journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous expert Brune Pereira will be remembered at an event taking place in London’s Spitalfields at Second Home.
Reclaiming Amazônia is a global art event taking place across three countries — the US, UK, and Portugal, helping to raise awareness for indigenous communities and the devastation to the Amazon rainforest.
Tomorrow, August 4, Reclaiming Amazônia will take place in London all evening paying homage to the recently murdered former Mixmag editor and indigenist.

‘Indigenise the Politics: A tribute to Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereria’ begins at 7:PM, and will look at the work of both men who were killed on their mission to uncover the ‘undeclared war’ on indigenous communities.
On June 15, the bodies of both men were discovered close to where they were last seen some 10 days earlier. The pair were on an investigative mission through the Amazon rainforest to find information for Phillips’ book.
At the event, Guardian journalist Andrew Downie and campaigner at Survival International Sarah Shenker will speak about the importance of the indigenous communities in the Amazon, and how we can prevent the ecosystem from destruction.

Alongside the talk, music from indigenous artists and London orchestras will set the scene, while attendees will be invited to experience an audio-visual immersive artwork created by Brazilian artists.
Later in the evening, Second Home will host Carnival do Brazil calling punters to the dancefloor. A DJ set from dublin Brazil’s Gerah kicks off at 8:PM, later taken over by Worm Disco Club’s Jackson Worm and a live performance from Afon Sistema.
All money made from ticket sales goes toward Acampamento Terra Livre, a non-profit fighting for the sovereignty of Brazilian people and indigenous spaces.

Following Dom and Bruno's deaths a fundraiser was set up by his sister Sian Phillips to raise money for UNIVAJA, an organisation that works to counter threats and illegal activities in the Amazon reserve. You can donate here.
