Scuba shares celebratory plans for his label Hotflush Recordings' 20th anniversary
There's set to be new collaborations, four mixed compilations, a vinyl compilation of classic Hotflush tracks and a tour spanning the UK, EU and North America
Scuba's Hotflush Recordings has announced a series of celebrations as it reaches its 20th anniversary.
A series of mixed compilations - both vinyl and digital - have been unveiled, alongside an international tour and a fresh collection of original collaborations from the founding artist.
First up in the new tracks is a joint effort from Scuba and dubstep pioneer Distance, entitled 'Opposites'. Expect a low-slung, atmospheric revelling in dubstep's pre-2006 sound, with forthcoming collaborative releases getting Nikki Nair and Roska involved to add some UK funky and bass flair.

Also in the near future is the release of four mixed 'Hotflush Origins' compilations (one of which is available now), compiled of new and unreleased music from Scuba. These digital efforts are complimented with a 3 x LP gatefold vinyl release featuring Hotflush Recordings classics. Expect a James Blake remix of Mount Kimbie, plus Paul Woolford and Or:la jumping onboard.
“At the end of 2002 I was a new graduate with a boring job, making music as a hobby with a fairly deep suspicion that I wasn’t very good at it," Scuba writes. "But eventually a sense of obduracy took over and even though the dim view I took of my musical output hadn’t changed, it had become a point of principle. During summer 2003, the first units of my newly formed imprint Hotflush Recording arrived.
"What Hotflush is really hasn’t changed that much in two decades. It’s a place to release my own music, and other music that I like, without much thought for anything else. I am hugely and eternally grateful to everyone who has contributed to the label, through music, artwork, administration, or just buying and listening to the music itself. You have, and this is no exaggeration, made my life worth living.”
