Ryuichi Sakamoto issues warning against false disciples in China

Individual(s) claiming to be Sakamoto’s disciples are creating trouble for his fans

Ryuichi Sakamoto’s management team has issued a statement on the artist’s Instagram profile warning against at least one person falsely claiming to be his disciple in China.

The statement says the artist has become aware of reports of “individual(s) claiming to be disciples of Ryuichi Sakamoto”, and that these false disciples seem “to be creating trouble for Ryuichi’s fans there. It then asserts: “If you meet or see someone claiming to be Ryuichi’s disciple, please know this person is being untruthful.”

The post also notes that “Ryuichi has never had a disciple or apprentice, always preferring to pursue his musical adventure alone now and in the future.”
