Roland and Moodymann team up on limited edition sampler, SP-404MKII
The “signature” portable sampler is limited to just 600 units, priced at $599.99
Roland and Moodymann – AKA Kenny Dixon Jr. – have teamed up to create a limited edition version of Roland’s “signature” portable sampler, the SP-404MKII.
In celebration of Moodymann’s “continuing legacy”, the sampler pays tribute to the Detroit legend with sound banks created by his label, KDJ Records, and a 7” vinyl and mixtape with “key selections from the KDJ discography”.
The SP-404MKII KDJ Records Sampler also features a custom aluminium faceplate lined with KDJ Records’ recognisable logo and artwork, and branded with Moodymann's name.

The sampler is limited to a run of just 600 units, priced at $599.99. “The SP-404MKII KDJ Records Limited Edition comes loaded with ten banks of exclusive samples and patterns, including six new tracks and four modern KDJ classics,” reads a description.
“From producing and remixing to performing live, these rare pockets allow fans to hitch a ride on Moodymann's musical express. The sampler features a high-shine aluminium faceplate that radiates the artistic spirit of KDJ Records, making it a visually striking addition to any collection.”

The sampler also comes alongside a 7” record featuring never-before-heard edits of Moodymann’s ‘I Think of Saturday' and ‘Hold It Down’, as well as an hour-long mixtape curated by Moodymann.
Speaking on the anniversary of KDJ Records, Moodymann’s Detroit-based label launched in 1994, he says: “30 years of KDJ provided me, personally, a way out.”
“But it also provided a way out for a few other people, for me to turn around and help them as well. The best part of that is I could bring my whole team with me that I grew up with."
