Raye has left label Polydor after dispute over debut album
She’s now operating as an independent artist
Raye has left her record label Polydor over a dispute surrounding the release of her debut album.
Last month, the artist released a statement claiming that the label had prevented her from releasing her debut project - even though she had signed a four-album deal in 2014.
July 19 saw Raye declare that she had left the label.

“Polydor and I have spoken and we have agreed to part ways. I want to say a big genuine thank you to the Polydor team, and all the individuals who have fought for me believed in me and worked so hard for me across the years.” She wrote on Twitter.
She continued: “Polydor are an incredible infrastructure powerhouse team, unfortunately, we have had different goals artistically and I am very grateful to them for giving me a graceful smooth exit to start my next chapter as an artist.”
Raye was allegedly told by the label that she could only make her debut album if her single, ‘Call On Me’ performed well commercially.

“Imagine the PRESSURE of me waking up every day frantically looking at numbers and stats hoping that I can just make MY BLOODY FIRST ALBUM,” She wrote in her initial statement explaining the situation.
She released a number of EPs and singles with Polydor, beginning in 2016 with ‘Distraction’, ‘Ambition’ and ‘I, U, Us’.
