Pet Shop Boys' CD becomes one of the most expensive ever sold on Discogs
The album is listed at a whopping $2300
Pet Shop Boys’ 2003-released record ‘Pop Art: The Hits - 5 Songs From Our History’ collating the band’s best tracks through the decades is one of the most expensive CDs ever sold on Discogs.
The one-off sampler CD, released via Parlophone in 2003 and sold exclusively in Japan limited to just 25 copies, compiled five tracks from Pet Shop Boys’ earliest work including ‘West End Girls’ and ‘Always On My Mind’.
In Discogs’ list of the top 50 most expensive CDs, ‘Pop Art: The Hits’ comes in at ninth sitting at a cool $2309.15 — that’s the equivalent to 190 copies of their most recently released album ‘Hotspot’.

‘Pop Art: The Hits’ was a regional release available only in Japan as a 5-track sampler manufactured by Toshiba, issued in gatefold. ‘Go West’, ‘New York City Boy’, and ‘Miracles’ also appeared on the five-track release.
The Pet Shop Boys release falls shortly under Pink Floyd’s seminal 1982 record ‘Wish You Were Here’, sold at a huge $2799 on Discogs. The record was also sold exclusively in Japan with a ‘gold-tinted’ and ‘matrix code etched’ CD, considered to be the first pressing of that rarity.

Topping the list is ‘Falling Hearts’ by heavy metal band Runner, sold for $3000 via Hee Jee Records. Michael Jackson’s ‘Smile’ and Eastside’s ‘The Battlefield’ also sit amongst the top 10 most expensive CDs ever sold on Discogs.
Elsewhere in the list, Eminem’s ‘Slim Shady’, Spice Girls’ ‘Viva Forever’, and Madonna’s ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’ also make the cut with each listed record selling for more than $1000.
