Peckham-based listening bar JUMBI granted 2AM licence

The hi-fi bar founded by Bradley Zero and Nathaneal Williams will host its first extended night this weekend

Peckham’s listening bar, JUMBI has been granted a 2AM license after months of petitioning.

Founders, Rhythm Section’s Bradley Zero and The Colours That Rise producer Nathanael Williams; will run their first extended night this weekend at the hi-fi bar.

For the last six months, the founders called on fans of the space to send a pre-written letter to the council asking to extend the venue’s opening hours.

The letter communicated that JUMBI is “A) Safe and responsible, not encouraging crime and anti-social behaviour, and B) Fulfilling a niche of creating a safe community space for underrepresented groups (‘BAME', LQBTQI+ etc.)”

This week, a 2AM license was granted by Southwark Council in-person whilst both Zero and Williams sat with their lawyer on June 12 according to Resident Advisor.

Announcing the news on social media, JUMBI shared an image of both Zero and Williams celebrating with the caption: “Thanks to the thousands of you who petitioned the council, our legal team, staff and the councillors at Southwark for recognising what we do and what it brings to our beloved Peckham

“These 2 extra hours may not seem like much but they make ALL the difference - safeguarding our future in the area and allowing us the freedom to experiment, push things forward and give more back.”

The post ends: “License is active immediately - see you all this Friday”.

On Friday, JUMBI will host its first 2AM night with music from Ben Gomori and Laura Shelley.

JUMBI first opened in July with an aim to share music and food from the founders' Afro-Caribbean roots.

The hi-fi venue features a one-turntable system and bespoke booth, as well as a collection of Bradley Zero’s own vinyl.
