New book explores the 90s heyday of DiY Sound System

Written by DiY founder Harry Harrison

A book looking into the 90s heyday of the DiY Collective is to be released in March.

Dreaming in Yellow is an autobiographic account from founding member Harry Harrison of “all their eclectic, outrageous and occasionally deranged glory from early acid house to DJ collective, sound system and record label".

The DiY Collective was formed in Nottingham back in 1989 and were one of the first house sound systems in the UK thriving on free parties.

This book is filled with anecdotes of times at clubs, parties, festivals historic raves such as the Castlemorton free festival and the Criminal Justice Bill riots.

Harrison says: “For me, the publication of Dreaming in Yellow will represent the culmination not just of my personal ambition to write a book, but more importantly a chance to really explore and explain the history of the DiY Collective and the wider Free Party Movement. Overlooked by the media in these pre-internet days, that whole underground scene was huge and of massive importance to a whole generation of people."

The synopsis reads: “Dreaming in Yellow is an attempt to distil the story of DiY’s tumultuous existence and the remarkably eclectic, outrageous and occasionally deranged story of them doing it themselves.”
