New event space set to open within disused warehouse in East London this weekend

Taking over a disused warehouse in Shoreditch, Unlocked will host a series of warm-up parties featuring Jyoty, Nooriyah and Mason Collective this spring before its official launch later this year

A venue is set to open within a disused East London warehouse this weekend.

Described as a "multidisciplinary exhibition and event space", Unlocked will take over a disused warehouse space on Curtain Road, Shoreditch; according to a launch video, the space had been regularly used as an "illegal rave venue" but has been left vacant "for a decade."

Unlocked will trial the new venue with a series of warm-up parties, Unlocked Origins, with the first set total place this Saturday (March 29) headlined by Australian DJ and producer Tobiahs.

While the new venue isn't expected to officially open until later this year, it has announced a run of Unlocked Origins parties for this Spring — featuring headliners Jyoty, Nooriyah and Mason Collective.

Purveyor of Southwest Asian and North African dance sounds Nooriyah will throw an "intimate party" on Friday, April 4 — while Jytoy's Homegrown will take over the new venue the following evening (April 5).

Also in April, Manchester trio Mason Collective will bring their MVSON party to London — with sets from DJ Joëlla Jackson and Colombian DJ and producer Ramoss.

In a promo video shared to its Instagram page, Unlocked appears to position itself as going against the current trend of nightclub closures in the UK, by "reclaiming" the disused warehouse space — "doors closing, culture fading. But, we're pushing back," the clip's narration states.

The video is captioned with "10 years of silence. Nothing. Now, life. Unlocked Shoreditch opens its doors this Friday." You can watch the promo video below.
