Moog Music parent company inMusic cuts US manufacturing jobs

Just months since the acquisition, reports claim that over half of its staff have been let go

Synth giant Moog Music has reportedly laid off employees at its Asheville, North Carolina, manufacturing factory just months after it was acquired by the audio equipment company inMusic.

The number of staff who have lost their jobs is unknown, however sources have told the Citizen Times that over half of the employees were reportedly cut — including many of those who work on building instruments.

Synth Anatomy also confirms the layoffs, suggesting that Moog’s production will be relocated to Asia.

Another report from CDM, reveals that the production cuts will impact products such as the DFAM and Mother-32.

This could mean that the Grandmother, Matriarch, and Minimoog Model D could continue to be made in the US.

In June, Moog was taken over by US conglomerate inMusic which already owns Akai, Alesis, Denon, M-Audio, Marantz, and Numark..

Moog opened its headquarters in Asheville in 2011 with it becoming employee-owned in 2015.

Staff controlled 49 per cent of the company, however, were bought out in the transfer with inMusic.

Calling the acquisition a “new chapter for Moog”, Joe Richardson, President of Moog Music said at the time of the move that it is “devoted to maintaining the sound, quality, and manufacturing philosophy” that the company currently works with.

Moog has not released a statement as of yet.
