Lotic announces new album 'Water' will be released in October
“This feels like my arrival as an artist”
Lotic has announced her new album, which will be released on October 29 via Houndstooth.
Titled ‘Water’, the concept record sees the Houston-via-Berlin producer and DJ explore her own identity alongside the theme that inspired her alias, which itself translates to “of, relating to, or living in flowing water.”
Across nine tracks, Lotic acknowledges water’s ability to heal and renew, yet its capacity as a conduit for human corruption. She does so via a beautifully curated mix of experimental electronics, pop hooks and sounds from the lineage of Black club cultures.

Speaking of the release, Lotic says: “This is the record I always wanted to write. This feels like my arrival as an artist.”
The album’s lead single ‘Come Unto Me’ was shared last week with an accompanying video directed by Matt Lambert.
Of the video, Lotic said: “1.8 million Africans died on the Middle Passage; their bodies were thrown into the Atlantic. Had their cells been able to adapt to this new ecosystem, and thrive and multiply, perhaps a glorious new culture and history would have been possible.”

In 2015, Lotic was invited to open Björk’s 2015 Berlin concert after the Icelandic icon dubbed her “one of the fiercest performer DJs I have ever heard.” The pair also collaborated on remixes for the 2015 Vulnicura album.
‘Water’ follows the artist’s 2019 debut ‘Power’, which was acclaimed for polished production, as well as its narrative reflections on race, sexuality and gender.
