Hit-Boy is the artist behind your favorite hip hop tracks taking over charts

Mixmag and AKG explore the inspiration behind Hit-Boy's chart-topping beats

With an emphasis on seclusion, artistic solidarity and refined audio gear from AKG, Mixmag and Samsung teamed up to bring a handful of musicians to the remote forests of Woodstock, New York and the open desert of Joshua Tree, California for two wholly unique electronic music retreats. Immersed in these thought-provoking environments, we created an engaging original mini-documentary on each participating artist to give viewers a novel perspective on their profile and creative process.

Joining us on our Joshua Tree retreat was the accomplished record producer, rapper, and songwriter, Chauncey Hollis, better known by his stage name, Hit-Boy. Growing up in Fontana, California, Hollis was introduced to the world of music by his uncle Rodney Benford, from the hit R&B group, Troop. Enchanted by the music and the lifestyle, Hollis buckled down in the studio and was soon noticed by Kanye West who signed him to his Very G.O.O.D. Beats production wing. A year later, Hit-Boy secured a recording contract with Interscope records and began producing for some of the most prominent artists in the world, including: Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez and many more. During his time on the retreat, he explains his "unstructured" studio process and how the key to his success is to have as many ideas in his musical arsenal as possible.
