Faithless to return to performing with Maxi Jazz tribute at Camp Bestival

Marking the electronic group's first on-stage appearance in eight years, the show will incorporate "old and new" music

Faithless are set to make their return to the stage at this year's Camp Bestival, with a show paying homage to late band member Maxi Jazz.

Returning to the stage with a full live band, The Shropshire-based sister-event to Camp Bestival announced that Faithless will "incorporate old and new music" for their first performance in eight years.

The band will pay tribute to bandmate and vocalist Maxi Jazz who passed away in December 2022, aged 65.

In a statement posted to Facebook following his death, the group commemorated Jazz as “a brilliant lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.”

Vocalised by Jazz, hits such as ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God is a DJ’ helped Faithless become recognised as one of the most prominent acts in British electronic music.

In the months after his passing, ‘Insomnia’ climbed the charts, three decades after its release.

Taking to Twitter in December 2023, the group asked fans to light a candle and “pray for peace," to mark the one year anniversary of Jazz's passing.

This year’s performance at Camp Bestival is reportedly only one of two festivals the electronic group has planned for 2024.

“We are so happy to announce the return of Faithless to the live arena after eight years away, and we can’t think of a better way to return than to the hallowed fields of Camp Bestival, in all their joyful glory,” said Sister Bliss according to NME.

The festival will take place in Shropshire on August, 15-18. Other acts announced in this year's line-up include headliners Paloma Faith, Rick Astley and McFly.

At Camp Bestival Dorset only, organisers announced a “UK festival exclusive” for Pete Tong's Ibiza Classics show.

Orbital will also perform at Camp Bestival this year, following the upcoming release of 'The Green Album', a remastered edition of their debut 1991 album.
