Deadmau5 releases a fresh, chopped edit of 'Strobe'

The intelligent rework of his 2009 classic is available for free download

'Strobe' is arguably one of the most recognizable and readily celebrated compositions in electronic music. Deadmau5, also known as Joel Zimmerman, debuted the symphonic progressive track seven years ago, but it's currently receiving increased attention due to a series of remixes.

Last week, mau5trap shared an eclectic remix pack featuring Lane 8, Feed Me and a Mixmag premiere with Com Truise.

Today, Zimmerman has dropped his very own edit of the Mau5 classic and invites fans to download for free via a public WeTransfer link.

Titled 'ebortS', the special version is a chopped, deconstructed formation of the 2009 production. Cleverly, with the track's name spelling 'Strobe' backwards, at various marks you can pick out reversed versions of the original's chords.

It's an unexpected and refreshing take on the famously melodic track, opening shortly with a delicate echo before running into quick cuts of warps and bursting sound. The two-minute interlude introduces a chilling whisper and the original's iconic floating melody before skipping back into the disentangled, fragmented revision.
