Christian Bale’s villain in new Thor film inspired by Aphex Twin music video
The producer’s ‘Come To Daddy’ video inspired the latest villain in Thor: Love and Thunder
Aphex Twin fans may spot something familiar when the next Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder, hits cinemas this month.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Christian Bale spoke about being inspired by Aphex Twin for the character set to be the next Marvel villain.
The British actor told the publication about one request he made to director Taika Waititi ahead of filming, in that his protagonist must resemble ‘the scream’ character from Aphex Twin’s ‘Come To Daddy’ music video, which was directed by Chris Cunningham.

“I only had absolutely one request, which was that I had referenced the ‘Come to Daddy’ video by Aphex Twin,” said Christian Bale in the interview.
"There’s a character in it that inspired me regarding Gorr, and I did say to Taika, ‘Here's the deal, I want to have the scream’. And if you see the video, you'll understand what I mean. I said, ‘I want to have that scream in the film’.”
The actor also told Screen Rant that despite his request, “the deal wasn’t kept”, and a scene containing this his Aphex Twin-influenced moment has not made it into the final cut.
“And I do understand, but that deal wasn't kept. Because it was, again, something which was just a little too extreme perhaps for the PG-13. Might have had people running for the exits. But we did do it, and it's on the cutting room floor somewhere,” he said.

Bale’s character, Gorr The God Butcher, is also said to be inspired by the 1922 classic Nosferatu, and might even play references to iconic singer-songwriter Kate Bush.
“There's obviously sort of a Nosferatu slight attitude. Taika and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn't get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at,” Bale told GamesRadar in an earlier interview.
“But I think he just realised he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film. I would say that the most common thing I was staring at was the Aphex Twin video of 'Come To Daddy'. But I don't even know if that will be in the final film.”
