​Carl Cox is giving away a scholarship to study electronic music in Brighton

£15,000 worth of music equipment will also be given to the lucky winner

WaterBear College of Music in Brighton has announced a brand new scholarship award with Carl Cox, as well as a prize of £15,000 in music equipment to help with the winners’ studies.

The scholarship comes alongside a new degree course held at the college, BA (Hons) in Electronic Music & Business which will run this September for the first time. The course promises to provide strategies to forge your own music career with help in production and performance.

Smaller class sizes, one-to-one mentoring and work experience are all key elements of the course which will help students to launch themselves into a career immediately after the degree.

Talking about the course, Carl Cox said: “I’m really excited to support WaterBear in providing this scholarship award and contributing to someone’s career journey in music. Hopefully, this will help the creative process and lead to some great new electronic music that we can all enjoy. I’m really looking forward to hearing some exciting new music from them.”

The degree can be studied from anywhere in the world via remote online working or can be taken in person on campus in Brighton. Currently, the university holds two more courses in music: BA (Hons) Career Musician, and MA Music Entrepreneur.

Carl Cox is one of the most globally-loved DJs, recently announcing the launch of his new book Oh Yes, Oh Yes!. With tales of a life fuelled by the party, Cox’s new book delves into his life growing up in Manchester, the UK music scene exploding across the world, and his knowledge of Ibiza, Burning Man and soundsystem culture.
