​Batu launches Bristol’s first free-to-access music studio, First Light

Bristol-based DJ and producer Batu is launching the city’s very first free-to-access music studio in collaboration with Dr. Martens, First Light Studio.

Opening yesterday on May 20, the community-first no-cost studio offers a new experience to its users, giving upcoming talent an opportunity to use facilities and develop their skills.

The project aims to keep Bristol’s thriving music scene alive while giving back to a community that bred an eclectic mix of talented artists in the hub of progressive nightlife.

In July, some recognised Bristolian names will head to the studio to give intimate workshop experiences to upcoming musicians. Hodge, Elder Island, Sir Hiss and Mix Nights collective will be amongst the tutors giving professional advice on production, pedal effects and beyond.

Speaking about the project, Batu said: “I’m really proud to bring First Light Studio to life with the support of Dr. Martens, and help give Bristol’s talented network of up-and-coming artists the support they need.

“So many people have helped me along the way and I've received a huge amount of support from the community around me. Privately renting a studio is an expense that is prohibitive for a lot of up-and-coming artists, and there should be more access for free.”

The launch of First Light Studio comes alongside the Dr. Martens Presents series, an initiative started in aid of the grassroots music communities and local collectives. The company has backed Batu’s new studio by helping with the build and providing professional kit for its users.
