RSO.Berlin among recipients of state grant funded by confiscated GDR assets
The Schnellerstrasse-based nightclub will reportedly use the money to build a "modern toilet facility"
RSO.Berlin is among the recipients of a new grant from the Berlin Senate Chancellery which has been funded by confiscated German Democratic Republic (GDR) assets.
Berlin's Senate Chancellery announced on Tuesday (March 25) that three local institutions would receive a total of €555,736 in funding; Tierpark zoo and sports complex Sportforum Hohenschönhausen will receive a grant, alongside RSO.Berlin.
According to rbb, RSO will use the new funds to construct a "modern toilet facility" within the Schnellerstrasse-based venue.

The GDR, also known as East Germany, existed between 1949 and 1990. After 1990, as per rbb, assets worth approximately €1.6 billion were confiscated from pro-regime parties and organisations of the former GDR to prevent them from being embezzled, after which point they were kept in a trusteeship by state officials.
Under an agreement with the Federal Agency for Special Tasks Related to Unification, funds from the GDR’s former assets are distributed across Germany, with Berlin receiving 8% of the overall amount.

The venue will host Home Again Club Festival, with last summer's edition being yet another marathon event, with festivities running non-stop for 100 hours. Meanwhile, this summer's line-up features Peggy Gou, Helena Hauff, Logic1000 and many more — with RSO is set to head up the festival's night-time programming.
