The Lab NYC is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly afterwork party where we stream the best American and international DJs from the intimate space connected to our Brooklyn office. Friday March 3rd, Mixmag hosted a full-blown SXM Festival Takeover with headliners Thugfucker, Chaim, Vanjee and Nadav Vee.
The massive back-to-back performance will be ahead of the five-day event, which takes place on March 15-19 in Saint Martin.
Thugfucker, the pairing of Greg Oreck and Holmar Flipsson, are an international DJ supergroup that come from surprising and unique backgrounds. Interests and fate brought the two together in the depths of New York City's underground music scene where Thugfucker was born. Once an unlikely duo, Thugfucker is now one of the most recognizable names in the electronic realm. With their debut single dropping on Life and Death in 2011, it wasn't long before talent like Jamie Jones, Loco Dice and Sasha took notice. A collaborative EP with Tale Of Us on Visionquest ultimately tipped the scale, earning Oreck and Flipsson a top spot in the cultural rankings of dance music.
Holmar will be played solo in The Lab NYC representing Thugfucker.
Also playing will be Tel Aviv's Chaim - another huge name who has played for crowds all around the world. His crisp, grooving style has woven through the sound systems of fabric, Panorama Bar and Pacha Ibiza. He's a favorite among Guy Gerber, Ellen Allien and Bedouin for his high energy and instrumentally driven sets.
Chaim will be playing later on Friday night alongside Yotto at Schimanki New York. Find tickets here.
The back-to-back island party session closes off with Vanjee and Nadav Vee. Both are New Yorker City locals celebrated as talented, musically creative DJs synonymous with underground club culture.
