Simone Gatto
Detachment
8/10
Simone Gatto's back catalogue is hemmed in by techno aesthetics, whether it be more housey cuts like 2012's 'Getting Started' or 2013's heady techno trip 'November'. There's always been something quirky in his sound, and this album explores that to the fullest. An air of mystery pervades the hushed voices and disconcerting melodies. Everywhere you turn there's a dark allure, tempting you in to hear more and delve deeper.
Gatto balances power with sensitivity, the title track really embracing the former while shorter workouts like 'Take A Look' focus on our ability to feel. As a body of work there is consistency and an overall notion of connectivity. Gatto really seems to have taken to this as a complete project and not simply a collection of separate tracks.
This LP really marks a milestone in his career, an accomplished album with enough flavour to please fans and newcomers to his sound alike.
