Flyer Art: Writing's on the wall
World renowned Tel Aviv club The Block has won fans around the world for its iconic flyer art
Club flyers are generally a mixed bag. For every Haçienda flyer that earns a place in the Design Museum, there's a garish purple effort featuring an Ibiza dancer, a velvet rope, popping bottles of Champagne and an invite to the foam party from hell.
But there's one club where the flyer art has played a significant role in building the rock-solid reputation it holds today among partygoers and DJs alike. Since 2009, The Block in Tel Aviv has employed the services of Greek artist Prop4g4nd4 to create portraits of the DJs playing the club in his own unique style.
The club, which has been singled out as one of the best in the world by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Danny Tenaglia, has featured everyone from DJ Harvey to David August on its flyers, and DJs including Tale Of Us and Kenny Dope have even started using them on their social media profiles.
