Snapped: CRSSD Festival
The third edition makes a triumphant return
CRSSD Festival remains a relatively new name alongside the more established festivals that make up the springtime chaos between March and May, who most refer to as "festival season".
Only in its third edition and second year, CRSSD has already settled into its rightful place on the spectrum of mainstay festivals as the easygoing opener and pre-game offering ahead of larger scale peers like Coachella and Ultra Music Festival.
Landing the prime time slot as the United States' first big weekend festival of the year, CRSSD's 2016 Spring version hit the nail on the head with its roster. Led by names like Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, Hot Since 82 and Claude VonStroke and tastefully balanced by a select few like ODESZA and Gorgon City that dance across the line of commercial, the festival offered an aural experience reflective of its attitude.
Despite headliner Tale Of Us pulling out last minute, the festival gracefully overcame the first of its challenges with welcomed replacement Maceo Plex. Then, the typically sun-drenched CRSSD faced a rainy weekend outlook which threatened to literally dampen the two-day ( and most definitely outdoor) festival.
However, the rain came and went and festival goers seemed unaffected by the slightly chillier beach breeze that came along with a deep glowing sunset, the perfect backdrop to sunset sets from Tycho and Green Velvet.
As the sun goes down, the line-up moves progressively from the laidback to the commanders of techno and house music. The first day saw Gesaffelstein pack the festival's central stage dropping sharp, dark techno tunes throughout his DJ set while Claude VonStroke wandered the grounds on Sunday, paying a visit to Green Velvet during his set before inviting his Get Real partner to his closing set on the South side stage.
While CRSSD's Spring edition is now behind us, fans can only hope for the coming announcement of a bookend Fall version, where we'll come full circle for a robust festival season for 2016.
