Beatport updates platform by adding three new genre categories
With a focus on the many forms of bass music
The online electronic music retailer Beatport has updated its platform to feature three new sub-genres for bass music, allowing users to find more specific and concentrated styles with ease.
After adding future house, big room and dance genres back in September, Beatport has been planning to expand and focus its categories even further. Now its finally able to announce the addition of trap/future bass, garage/bassline/grime and leftfield bass.
Each new category will offer a distinct sound profile. For leftfield bass, users will be able to find the deeper shades of dubstep and juke/footwork, drifting further from the main dubstep category that’s been populated by brasher material. Expect to find music on respected labels like Teklife, Deep Medi Musik and Hyperdub alongside artists like Ikonika, DJ Spinn and Addison Groove.
The trap/future bass category will focus on what has been one of the fastest growing genres, mainly in the US and Canada. Here’s where artists like UZ, Mr. Carmack and Bro Safari will be found, with key labels like Quality Good Records, Mad Decent, Dim Mak and OWSLA.
An extremely relevant addition considering the sound coming from the UK underground is the garage/bassline/grime category. Here users will find pioneers like DJ Q alongside the likes of Distinkt and Flava D, with Butterz, 877 Records and Crucast as some of the top labels.
To celebrate the recent update, Beatport is giving away free downloads of new bass music each week. The first round of free tracks includes 'Introspection' by UZ (pictured above), while a new track from an exclusive instrumental version of his album ‘Layers’ will be made available each week along with more free tunes.
