Back in 2016, Avicii shocked his fans and followings when he announced his decision to retire from touring after a string of cancelled shows over the years due to health issues.

He still remains off the road, but seems to still be active in the studio. As teased by a select few "magic boxes" which were sent out physically to several select artist peers and supporters by his team, Avicii is preparing to release new music soon.

The hook of his new track, which harkens to Avicii's signature vocal-based electro sound, plays as the box is opened, as demonstrated by a fan page called Avicii Mexico that received the box. It also included a letter, which clarified that he's still dedicated to creating new music despite taking a step back from performing.

Australian DJ Tigerlily also received and posted an Avicii music box on her Instagram earlier today, but her post has since been removed.

Take a look at the video and a transcription of the letter below.

"We all reach a point in our lives and careers where we understand what matters the most to us.

For Avicii, it’s creating music. That is what he lives for, what he was born to do. He was just a school kid when he uploaded his first song online. All of a sudden he was performing for millions, in front of a roaring ocean of hands, faces and flashes. It was a lot. It was fast.

Last year when Avicii quit performing live, many thought that was it. His departure from the stage was perceived as him stepping down for good. But, the end of live never meant the end of Avicii. Instead, he went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

The next stage of Avicii’s life will be all about his love of making music. It is the beginning of something new and now you’re starting to hear what that sounds like." – Avicii
