Yaya Bey has announced the forthcoming release of her newest EP ‘The Things I Can’t Take With Me’ on April 9.

She is the first announced signing of the recently relaunched Big Dada imprint of Ninja Tune, who are now run for and by Black, POC and Minority Ethnic people.

The first single from the EP, ‘fxck it then’, is out now. Structured around a lulling, rolling horn melody, ‘fxck it then’ is an anthem for rediscovering your strength and power.

‘The Things I Can’t Take With Me’ was born from Bey working through a breakup that then triggered memories of childhood trauma. She has said, “It is going to be about the journey home to self, but on the way, there’s all this shit I gotta let go of, just the things I can’t take with me.” The EP is a letting go to move forwards.

Yaya Bey is the daughter of rapper Grand Daddy I.U. Her last mixtape, 2020’s ‘Madison Tapes’, was a stripped back, intimate project that opened herself up to the world.
