Woman refiles sexual assault lawsuit against Snoop Dogg after case dismissal

Snoop Dogg’s former backup dancer has refiled a sexual assault case against the rapper after it was originally dismissed in April, according to Pitchfork.

The lawsuit accuses Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., of sexually assaulting a backup dancer who previously worked for Snoop Dogg in 2013 in Anaheim, California.

Pitchfork obtained documents stating that the lawsuit was refiled in federal court again last week, this time removing the rapper’s business ventures and this time only accusing Snoop Dogg himself along with former pimp and hip-hop personality Bishop Don “Magic” Juan.

Jane Doe accused the pair of forcing her to engage in oral sex in 2013. According to the alleged victim, Snoop Dogg entered a bathroom she was using, forced her to perform oral sex, and masturbated in front of her.

The case was originally filed in February and was later dismissed in April. Jane Doe said that she felt “pressured by defendant Snoop Dogg due to his dominance, and his position of power over her, including his ability to hire and fire her and ensure that she would never be hired in his industry again".

The new filing reissues the same allegations, this time claiming that both Snoop Dogg and Bishop Don violated the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and Tom Bane Civil Rights Act, and also alleged sexual battery, sexual assault, and conspiracy.

“We have obtained new information which we believe adds significant credibility and corroboration to the alleged scheme of Defendants and the alleged acts they took against my client and others,” reads an email from Jane Doe’s attorney, Matt Evan Orellana Finkelberg, to the Los Angeles Times.

A spokesperson for Snoop Dogg told Mixmag: “The complaint refiled today against Snoop Dogg by 'Jane Doe' and her attorney is meritless.

“It follows Jane Doe’s attorney’s voluntarily dismissing just a few months ago her previous complaint on the alleged matter. He also dismissed an earlier complaint—this is the third try.”

The new case also accuses the rapper of infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and violation of the California labour code.

“As before, this refiled complaint is riddled with and predicated upon falsehoods and inaccuracies. Moreover, as Jane Doe and her attorney know or should know, Jane Doe has never been Snoop Dogg’s employee,” said the defendant’s attorney.

Meanwhile, Finkelberg argued to the Los Angeles Times: “We believe that this new information stated in the complaint which includes details of what allegedly happened to other alleged victims, including an alleged attempted rape against an alleged victim by Defendant Snoop Dogg, is important and demonstrates how serious our claims are.”
