WOMAD Festival: "It is harder to book artists because of Brexit"

The organisers of WOMAD (World of Music, Arts, and Dance) Festival have said Brexit is making it harder to book artists.

Potential artists fear they won’t be able to enter the United Kingdom due to the uncertainty surrounding the UK’s departure from the European Union.

Chris Smith, who runs the festival, said: “It is harder to book artists because of Brexit. We are struggling to overcome it and let artists know they are welcome here and people still want to experience their great music.

“Lots of artists are finding they can get to Europe but fear taking the next step to the UK, particularly if there is there is no passport union.”

Although the visa application process for the festival won't have opened yet, Smith worries it could be difficult.

WOMAD, held in Wiltshire, had problems with visas last year, with artists unable to perform because of delays.

WOMAD was founded by former Genesis member Peter Gabriel in 1982.

This year's edition takes place from July 25 to 28. More information can be found here.
