Watch Sasha perform his orchestral version of 'Xpander' live
Giving new life to the ultimate classic
Back in May 2017, influential UK producer and DJ Sasha gathered a collection of musicians to perform a unique live show at The Barbican featuring orchestral versions of his back catalogue, which included the classic anthem ‘Xpander’.
Originally released in 1999, ‘Xpander’ has become one of the all-time great tracks from the realms of progressive house and trance. Now the new version serves as somewhat of a rebirth for the iconic material, having been transformed in such a special way with this live arrangement.
On producing the orchestral version, Sasha says it was important to present ‘Xpander’ in a new light: “From day one everyone was like ‘We’ve got to do Xpander!’ Of course, it was the scariest thing to tackle because it was such a big old record. We slowed it right down, put this really teasing intro in it that sounded very [Steve] Reich-ian. The moment that it opened up and the riff came in was a really special moment at the Barbican.”
