Watch A$AP Rocky talk about how the death of his brother made an impact on his rap career
Rocky’s bro is the reason the rapper made it to the top and got a ‘real job’
"Growing up, I had this beat stuck in my head," A$AP Rocky says. "But one day, man, the beat just stopped."
During that last sentence, spoken by Rocky in Mercedes-Benz's Grow Up: Get A Job advert, the camera pans to a man lying dead on the ground. The man is the A$AP mob member’s brother, Ricky, who was shot dead when the rapper was 13-years-old.
It was Ricky who taught A$AP how to rap, setting the foundations for a career in hip hop which has seen him release two albums, collaborate with Skrillex and top the Billboard 200 chart twice.
In the video, Rocky details how his brother's death inspired his rise to the top. "My brother moved on, but the beat came back, pulsing through every vein in my body. My older brother Ricky is responsible for me growing up and having a 'real job'."
