Sky Lanterns/Havana (Violation Music)

8/10

War Machine

On his own Violation imprint, the trustworthy War Machine drops a delicious 12" of skeletal, wonky, minimal bassweight. Fans of Lynx's stripped back, organic arpeggios will love 'Sky Lanterns', with its bleepy Autonomic stylings and hypnotic, dub-inflected rhythmic workout. Flip 'Havana' sketches things up a touch, with knotty beads of processed bass skittering along while rasping electrodes snarl up from the deep before glitching back down into the murk. High-spec, lo-fi riddims from a master engineer with a bewitching ear for experimental 170 grooves.
