Air Max '97
Core Work/Expenditure (Decisions)
9/10
Australia's Air Max '97 has started a label, with the first release coming from himself. Seems strange that he's putting out his own work, given that a bunch of club music imprints must be vying for his off-kilter jams but, hey, all power to him. This double-A side affair sees the producer go down a more techno route than usual, 'Core Work' binding eccentric finger snaps with focused 4am drum programming and bugged-out noises while 'Expenditure' sees him at his wonky best, all rubbery bass and a bubblin' sense of rhythm. Unlike much out there at the moment.
