Velocity Press launches Independent Print Market, shares latest publication 'Egostrip Book 1'

Electronic music book publisher Velocity Press has shared its latest book, 'Egostrip Book 1', whilst simultaneously announcing its new event, Independent Print Market.

'Egostrip Book 1' is a collection of Dan Lish's character illustrations from the world of hip-hop and beyond (pictured), initially published by the artist himself in 2020 with this present launch the first time it has been available outside his shop.

There are 138 illustrations of pioneering artists from hip hop’s golden era inside, including De La Soul, Madlib, DJ Premier, Mobb Deep, Nas, Cypress Hill, J.Period, J Dilla, Kool Keith, MF DOOM, The Roots, Biggie Smalls, A Tribe Called Quest, Biz Markie and The Beastie Boys.

This reissue isn't available until October 14 (which you can pre-order here), but in the meantime, Velocity Press has announced its new event, Independent Print Market.

With its first edition taking place on August 5 between midday and 7:PM at All My Friends, Hackney Wick, the market will bring together an array of independent publishers and enthusiasts of club culture for a day of discovery.

Deliberately operating as a platform for independent publishers, shops and artists to connect with audiences and share their passions, stallholders will include Velocity Press, Repeater Books, Four Corners Books, Disco Pogo, Dance Policy, 140 zine, My First Book of Drum & Bass, the Museum of Youth Culture and more.

“I love attending fairs and markets and running at a stall at them even more," explains Velocity Press owner Colin Steven. "Selling direct, meeting fellow stallholders and music fans; what's not to like?

"I've been to a few over the years but never one dedicated to print for electronic music culture. I know so many like-minded publishers, shops and artists who feel the same way. The event celebrates the spirit of independence, highlighting the incredible range of talent within the industry.”
