Astral Plane – the US blog and now fledgling label – has been covering instrumental grime's advances into the club over the last 18 months, with debut comp 'Heterotopia' proof of just how fluid and dynamic those sounds have become. Here, new-school producers flip those originals in a million different directions. Liminal Sounds' Air Max adds sparse acoustics, flickery samples and Jersey club rhythm to Kid Antoine's 'Night Vision', while Gobstopper signee Iglew adds bubblegum melodies and dark, menacing bass to Celestial Trax' 'Illuminate'. Rushmore's snarling club edit of Victoria Kim's 'Apgu Freeway' is a highlight, as is the duo's Kowloon edit of Rushmore's 'Moment X'. Verdict? This is the future.
