Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering 23-year-old Cody Fisher in Birmingham nightclub CRANE on Boxing Day.

One 22-year-old was arrested at an address in Birmingham city centre just after midnight on December 28, while another man, aged 21, was arrested in London later this morning, West Midlands Police have announced.

Fisher was stabbed on the dancefloor at around 11:45PM and pronounced dead around half an hour later, despite efforts to save him.

DCI Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police’s Homicide team, said: “We’re making good progress in our investigation and are building a better picture of what happened.

“We’ve been really pleased with the response from the public and have already had a number of witness accounts and images sent through, which will help with our investigation.

“It’s vital that we hear from everybody who saw any part of what happened that night – no matter how insignificant they think it might be.

“Cody’s family and friends are devastated by what happened, and we’ll continue to work to bring them answers.”

West Midlands Police have set up “a dedicated web page here where you can send information, photos and videos that could help our investigation.”

Cody Fisher was a non-league footballer and school sports coach.

He was in the Birmingham City FC Academy as a youth, and went on to play for several non-league clubs, including Bromsgrove Sporting, Stourbridge FC and Stratford Town,

His family said in a statement: "They have broken our hearts; I have lost my best friend. My family and I are asking for privacy and respectfulness at this heart-breaking time."

Mixmag spoke to a friend of Cody Fisher who was with him on the night he was murdered, who said: "He's such a good lad. He doesn't have any badness in him. So for that to happen to him is just so sad.

"He's always smiling and had a lot going for him."

His girlfriend Jess Chatwin posted a tribute on Instagram, writing: ""My poor baby. I'm so sorry this has happened to you.

"My whole world, the love of my life, my best friend has been taken away from me.

"I don't know how I'm going to do life without you Code. There is so much we will never get the chance to do now.

"This doesn't feel real. I love you forever Cody Fisher."
