​Joy Anonymous take on edit of Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’

Joy Anonymous have taken on Beach Boys’ iconic 1966 track ‘God Only Knows’ in a recent rework for Island Records.

Closing off a huge year of releases from the live act, which included a string of singles and remixes, ‘God Only Knows’ marks the first time the pair have sampled a huge hit track.

Reworking the 1966-released classic, Joy Anonymous took the iconic vocals from the hit Beach Boys track and added their own euphoric, uptempo stamp.

“This song came about when we heard the original playing in a bar in LA, in the cab ride home after we started to make the track - chopping the sample up and adding our joy drums,” the pair said on the rework.

"A couple of weeks later we started road testing it in our live shows and after parties and the reaction meant we had to get it out ASAP. Feels like the perfect joy anthem to end another ridiculous year.”

The house cut landed on Friday, December 23, just a week ahead of the duo’s guest mix for The Blessed Madonna’s NYE Party on BBC Radio 6Music.

“Thanks to you all for the love because of you we’ve managed to get it over the line quicker than we thought,” said in response to fans, who asked the pair to put out the track before Christmas.

Elsewhere, Joy Anonymous recently came off a European tour alongside newfound superstar Fred again.., and play their largest headline show to date at Hackney Wick’s Colour Factory.
