The Simpsons episode with Michael Jackson has been pulled from circulation
The show made the decision after the Leaving Neverland documentary
An episode of The Simpsons featuring Michael Jackson has been pulled form circulation.
This follows accusations made in the two-part Channel 4 documentary Leaving Neverland. The documentary features Wade Robson and James Safechuck, both of whom claim they were sexually abused by Jackson when they were children.
According to The Wall Street Journal, executive producer James L. Brooks, creator Matt Groening and show-runner Al Jean have made the decision to pull the episode Stark Raving Dad, originally aired in 1991, from streaming platforms, networks re-running the show, and forthcoming physical copies, including box sets.
“It feels clearly the only choice to make,” Brooks said. “The guys I work with — where we spend our lives arguing over jokes — were of one mind on this.”
Jackson’s estate has denied all allegations, labelling Robson and Safechuck "opportunists". and "liars". They are currently suing HBO for $100 million.
