“Now is the right time to bid farewell”: Swing Ting are parting ways

Manchester-based production outfit Swing Ting, who curated the now essential club nights and label of the same name, will bring their musical endeavours to an end in 2022.

The pair announced the news on Twitter this afternoon with a statement reading: “Swing Ting productions, promotions and label releases will come to a close in 2022.

“It’s been an amazing 13 years and we never knew how much we’d be able to achieve! We feel now is the right time to bid farewell.”

The production duo, comprised of Balraj Samrai and Ruben Platt, launched their Swing Ting project in the late 2000s which later amassed into monthly parties and a record label.

Swing Ting nights found their home in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, regularly taking over SOUP (previously Soup Kitchen) for the past decade. “SOUP in the Northern Quarter of Manchester is one of the most regular homes for Swing Ting,” Balraj previously told Mixmag.

“I think venues like SOUP are really important because they obviously hold the culture quite close in terms of a small venue mentality. It’s really important to have venues that aren’t just a business venture,” said resident Swing Ting DJ Chris.

As a final hurrah for the enormous project that Balraj and Ruben have built from the ground up, the duo will celebrate its last month in December with ‘The Last Dance’.

Taking over SOUP one final time from 9:PM until 4:AM, Swing Ting’s final party will take place on December 18 with an entirely resident based line-up.

"Massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us in any way whatsoever,” they added on Twitter. “Hope to see you in the dance for a send off to remember!”

Tickets to Swing Ting’s final party are £5 on the door and £3 for members.
