Spotify launches in-app AI DJ feature that "knows your music taste"
It comes complete with a “realistic voice” and a "curated line-up of music"
Spotify has announced the launch of a brand new in-app feature named DJ, helping to tailor user experiences and provide a “personalised AI guide that knows you and your music taste”.
Currently being rolled out in the US and Canada for Spotify Premium users, DJ was first revealed last week in an announcement from Spotify, and aims to tailor experiences through AI-powered technology.
The feature is set to come complete with a “stunningly realistic voice”, to accompany “a curated line-up of music” and commentary around the tracks chosen for each specific user.

“If you’re not feeling the vibe, just tap the DJ button and it will switch it up. The more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don’t like!), the better its recommendations get,” Spotify added. “Think of it as the very best of Spotify’s personalization — but as an AI DJ in your pocket.”
To make the voice model for the new feature, Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan took charge after his appearances as host on the streaming giant’s personalised morning show, The Get Up.
“His personality and voice resonated with our listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast,” reads Spotify’s announcement. “His voice is the first model for the DJ, and we’ll continue to iterate and innovate, as we do with all our products.”

DJ fuses Spotify’s existing personalisation technology with generative AI “through the use of OpenAI technology”, Spotify claims, with expertise from the platform’s music editors and experts.
