Sony Music has developed an app that calculates and displays exact daily royalty earnings for artists.

Along with the novel transparency, the app provides information on how the royalties contribute or hurt an artist’s entire label. Sony has built in other features as well that includes real-time data displays of where artists are most popular. This also includes cumulative info on popularity across social media platforms.

The level of visibility in Sony’s new app is undoubtedly unprecedented, and is a notable change for the better in establishing how artists get paid for their work. Currently, the app is only available to Sony artists in Sweden where it was developed, but will expand later in the year.
