Shauna launches Working Classics label, shares EP '2384'

Shauna has launched her new label, Working Classics, established out of frustration with the landscape of the music industry and lack of opportunities and support available for minority artists.

Inspired by local parties including Love Muscle and Drip, the imprint intends to encapsulate the spirit of these parties and curate an inclusive space, welcoming experimentation from artists who release on the label.

To kick things off, she has shared lead EP, '2384', which sees the Liverpool-based artist return to her four-to-the-floor roots. Its title stems from a dystopian dream, set in the year 2384, where women no longer had rights; the date being something which has stuck with Shauna since.

Within the three-tracker, dancers can expect an opening of 'Out Getting Gary' featuring a glitchy, chugged-out ode to the nights spent "on a mission", whilst groove-fuelled beats simmer on in 'Elektra' and 'Mangolicious' closes things off with lashings of acid.

“I started writing this EP after a soul restoring night at Love Muscle last year," Shauna tells Mixmag. "I’m always inspired by the queer community, going to a queer party and being surrounded by sweaty, dancing bodies is very energising and I always feel at my most creative after. It's as much written for queer dance floors as it is inspired by them.

"The idea behind the label is to capture the spirit of queer dancefloors by creating a diverse and inclusive space where producers feel free to experiment and push their art into directions unknown," she continues. "Basically, I want Working Classics to be a platform for minority artists who are constantly overlooked by labels who prioritise straight cis white men, to release bangers."
