Charli appeared to confirm the new collaboration on Twitter last week (Thursday, June 8), writing: “me and robyn been making songs in the studio. happy pride ;)”.
The announcement follows a declaration in January, that the next album from the ‘Crash’ singer will be her “best.” If Charli’s new year’s resolutions to “have no fear”, “be even more cunt” and “take less pills” — fans are in for a treat.
There have been numerous hints across social media that have pointed toward the collaboration, such as Patrick Berger - the producer behind Charli xcx’s 2019 album ‘Charli’ and Robyn’s 2010 hit ‘Dancing on my Own’ - sharing a photo of himself and the two pop stars in the studio on Instagramin February.
Charli briefly shared the history behind her and Robyn’s longstanding friendship and collaborative efforts after nominating her as a “hero” in 2020 for V Magazine. Charli reflected on the wise words offered to her whilst she was “feeling really nervous” by the Swedish singer-songwriter, that “stuck with [her] forever”.
Robyn reportedly told her: “Don’t worry about what anyone thinks of you. We’ll have fun together, being ourselves.”
Following the release of her 2018 album ‘Honey’, Robyn commented on how many excellent songs have been written by “so many good songwriters” some of whom she has had the “privilege to work with” as she accepted the accolade presented to her by her friend at the 2020 NME awards. Here’s hoping for some collaborative magic from the duo.
