‘Ravidstow’ signs still up a week after illegal rave in Cornwall

Signs branded with the word ‘Ravidstow’ are still up near the site where an illegal rave took place over the Jubilee Weekend at the start of June, according to Cornwall Live.

Over a week since the event was wrapped up by local police, nearby signs originally reading ‘Davidstow’, the site in which the illegal rave was set up, has been changed to feature a slight play on words.

On June 3, hundreds of people flocked to Davidstow Moor in Camelford, close to the border of Devon, where they set up an impromptu rave on the abandoned airfield.

The rave reportedly took place in celebration of Castlemorton’s 30th anniversary - the biggest free party to ever hit UK home turf with around 20,000 to 40,000 people in attendance.

Original reports of the rave on Davidstow Moor said there were “thousands” of people gathering, but after being investigated by police, they confirmed there were more likely “hundreds”. DevonLive reported that there were thought to be around 1,000 people in attendance at its peak.

People travelled from as far as Scotland to attend the illegal event, which raged on for three days over the Jubilee Weekend without interference from police. Local authorities began blocking nearby roads and stopping attendees from entering on Saturday, June 4.

‘Ravidstow’, as it has now been coined, coincidentally took place next to a model aircraft exhibition which was due to go ahead the same weekend on the site. Those attending the model show were asked to change route via the local cheese factory to avoid the rave.

Police arrested 10 people following the illegal event, according to DevonLive. “These individuals have been released from police custody pending further inquiries,” a spokesman said.
