Pop Smoke was shot and killed by a 15-year-old, testifies LAPD detective

Pop Smoke was murdered by a 15-year-old, according to a recent testimony by a Los Angeles Police Department detective, reports the NY Daily News.

The New York drill rapper was shot dead in February last year, and in July it was revealed five arrests had been made in connection with the murder, and four suspects charged with murder during a robbery and burglary.

Detective Carlos Camacho reportedly made a new testimony last week, during the preliminary hearing for 20-year-old Corey Walker, one of the suspects charged in the relation with the death.

In the testimony he alleged that the group of suspects broke into an Airbnb apartment Pop Smoke was staying in in the Hollywood Hills with the intention of stealing his jewellery and Rolex watch.

The testimony also claimed a 15-year-old suspect, who cannot be named, confessed to the murder during a recorded conversation with another inmate in his juvenile detention center cell in May 2020.

"He admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Beretta 9 (mm.)," said detective Camacho, also alleging the suspect “admitted that they asked for the jewellery” which led to “a confrontation”.

Alongside Detective Camacho, another LAPD detective Christian Carrasco made a testimony outlining the series of events leading to the murder.

The testimonies alleged that the group of suspects broke into the Airbnb using a window on the second floor while Pop Smoke was in the shower, leading to a confrontation where they demanded his valuables. Pop Smoke, real name Bashar Jackson, is said to have fought back and “rushed” the teens, before he was “pistol whipped”, kicked and shot three times by the 15-year-old suspect at around 4:AM.

After being shot once, Pop Smoke was said to have got up and ran downstairs, before being shot a further two times.

One intruder is alleged to have held a woman who was staying with the rapper at gun point, saying “Shut the fuck up. Do you want to die?”. The detective's information is credited to have come from a testimony from this woman.

The suspects are alleged to have stolen a "large gold watch" and resold it for $2,000, as well as taking other jewellery.

Corey Walker has pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder and robbery. His defense has argued he was only the driver on the night and not involved directly in the murder. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
