Police share body cam footage of Moodymann arrest

Iconic Detroit producer Moodymann, also known as Kenny Dixon Jr., was arrested on Wednesday for supposedly breaking and entering on his own property. He shared his video footage of the arrest on his Instagram, that showed police aggressively shouting with assault rifles pointed at him. Now the Highland Park police have released a statement along with police body cam footage revealing their perspective of the incident.

When Moodymann posted his video, which has since been deleted, it sparked public outrage. The video shows Moodymann in a parked vehicle apparently surrounded by what is said to be nine officers with AR-15-style rifles pointed at the artist yelling at him to get out of the vehicle. Today new information has surfaced, including that Moodymann was carrying a handgun, which he has a CPL license for, although he supposedly did not declare this to officers.

Highland Park police received a wave of questions from media following the incident, which prompted them to release a statement and hold a press conference. The statement reads:

"On Saturday while conducting a proactive patrol regarding possible illegal scraping [sic] HPPD officers encountered Mr. Dixon. During the encounter, Mr. Dixon did not produce personal ID nor proof of ownership of the property and was subsequently arrested and conveyed to HPPD. Further investigation confirmed ownership and Mr. Dixon was released and issued several citations regarding this incident. Mr. Dixon has since met with HPPD and this matter was resolved to the satisfaction of Mr. Dixon."
