​Piri & Tommy, Nia Archives, Gabriels, and more tipped as BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2023

BBC Radio 1 has revealed its Sound of 2023 longlist, featuring a slew of dance music acts from across the spectrum of electronic.

The longlist, which tips the best predicted new music for the following year, includes more dance music artists and producers than any previous list, including Nia Archives, Fred again.., Piri & Tommy, Asake, and more.

Also making the 10-strong list this year is Gabriels, the neo-soul trio from LA who rose to fame with their hit single ‘Love and Hate in a Different Time’ earlier last year, which scored a remix from house legend Kerri Chandler.

“We are extremely honoured to be included on BBC Radio 1’s ‘Sound of 2023’ List,” Gabriels posted on Instagram last night.

BBC also praised dance music in its rise to the charts this year, with the likes of LF System’s ‘Afraid To Feel’ and Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal’s ‘B.O.T.A (Baddest Of The All)’.

The list predicts that the category will continue to “dominate the charts” into 2023, including the likes of drum ’n’ bass duo Piri & Tommy who broke through this year with their hit track ‘on & on’.

“What a crazy crazy year piri and tommy nation, our first proper year of releasing and we ended up on the bbc sound of 2023 long list thank u sm BBC Radio 1 for supporting us so much, we just gna try keep making good music for u all,” the pair posted on Instagram.

Also on the list is Nia Archives, hot on the heels of her big win at MOBO’s annual awards ceremony where she picked up the first award under the brand new Best Electronic/Dance category.

Elsewhere on the list, Afrobeats singer Asake, R&B trio FLO, and more were tipped as the new sound of 2023. Check it out here.
