Patchouli Brothers release new edits of Mary Mundy’s music

Toronto-based producers and DJs, Patchouli Brothers, have released the first workings on their new imprint, Dodo Records.

The release is their own creation: two edits of musician Dr. Mary Mundy’s underground tracks, ‘Love Me Love Me’ and ‘Love Is Gone’.

And although Dodo Records is not exclusively an edits label, the brothers were provided with the opportunity to work with Mundy on these edits to emphasise her soulful, underground disco curations for the label’s debut.

“It's an honour to reintroduce the soulful sounds of Mary Mundy, and have her bless our disco edits plus the first Dodo Record,” the brothers say. “They've worked our dancefloors for so long, so it's nice to have them out in the world; legit and licensed!”

Having played her music at parties for years in their DJ sets, the original plan was to ask Mundy to release her disco tune ‘Love Me Love Me’ due to the duo’s edit’s success at smaller parties. However, Mundy also noted her passion for her 1982 track ‘Love Is Gone’, resulting in the brothers’ reworking of both ‘Love Me Love Me’ and ‘Love Is Gone’.

This release from Patchouli Brothers showcases a blend of underground disco, soul and R&B, maintaining the energy originally put into the track by Dr Mundy - who today, whilst a university professor, still sings.
